Meet Our Trustees

Our trustees bring together different skills, experiences and perspectives, but share one commitment: ensuring SKB Muay Thai remains an affordable, inclusive and welcoming community.

Working voluntarily, our trustees provide governance and oversight while also staying actively involved in the life of the club—supporting classes, welcoming new members, coordinating activities, and helping create a safe and supportive environment.

Together, we protect the spirit of SKB and ensure the club continues to grow with wellbeing, respect, and community at its heart.

Johann Voss

Trustee and Head Coach

Johann has been involved in kickboxing and martial arts from a young age, competing extensively in his earlier years and becoming a two-time New Zealand titleholder.

Today, he uses that experience to help others build confidence, develop practical self-defence skills, and become stronger both physically and mentally.

Johann believes martial arts can have a positive impact well beyond the gym. His coaching places a strong emphasis on discipline, respect, resilience and anti-bullying, while creating an environment where people of all ages and experience levels can learn, improve and feel more confident in themselves.

For Johann, coaching isn't just about teaching people how to fight — it's about giving

Ivan Yeo

Ivan Yeo is a Trustee of SKB Muay Thai Charitable Trust and played a key role in transitioning the club into a not-for-profit organisation after its former coach and founder, Scottie, gifted it to him.

Ivan brings extensive experience working across community development, wellbeing, mental health, and migrant and culturally diverse communities. At SKB, he focuses on creating an inclusive, affordable environment where people feel welcomed, supported and connected.

For Ivan, SKB is about more than learning Muay Thai. He believes physical activity can bring people together across different ages, cultures and backgrounds, creating friendships, confidence and a sense of belonging.

His philosophy for the club is simple: wellbeing first, Muay Thai second.

Sophie-Jane Painting

My name is Sophie-Jane Painting, and I have been part of SKB Muay Thai since 2019. Over the years, SKB has become more than a training space for me—it has helped me build confidence, push through challenges, and find a genuine sense of belonging within the community. From my first class to now, I have seen firsthand how SKB supports both its committed and casual members.

I was born in Auckland, New Zealand, and my background has shaped the values I bring into both my professional and personal life. Professionally, I work as an administrator in the tertiary sector, coordinating approvals and travel bookings for staff and students across one of the largest departments. Through this role, I have developed strong skills in governance, cross-team communication, managing complex processes, and maintaining a high level of attention to detail—skills I am eager to contribute at a board level.

Outside of work and training, I usually travel, attend concerts, keep up with the latest shows, play pickleball, or watch sports. These interests help me unwind, stay balanced, and remain connected to the wider community.

As a board member, I aim to support athlete development at all levels—from beginners building confidence to those progressing in competitive training—while helping ensure the club continues to grow sustainably without losing its strong sense of community.

To me, SKB is a place where individuals challenge themselves, build resilience, and genuinely support one another. I am proud to be part of the SKB community and excited about the opportunity to contribute to its future.
